Born in 1990. In 2015 graduated Fine Arts Academy in Cracow with a Master’s degree. She works and lives in London. Gabriela is best known for her oil paintings. A principle theme in her work is tense, off situations. Through painting, she explores where the line is when events cross from in, to out of one’s control. Subtle emotions from the realization that one is becoming powerless translate into visual detail.
My large scale, charcoal hued oil paintings are a collection of strange artifacts and snapshots: a pile of comatose men in suits, glistening muscles of a dismembered amphibian, a piece of otherworldly dinnerware, or gold flashing on a sand grain.
Using oil painting technique allows me to exercise meticulous attention to detail. Almost lifelike quality, coupled with unrecognisable image, elicits fear and discomfort. The size and high contrast colour scheme of the pieces further confuse and overwhelm the viewer.
Drawing inspiration from modern nightmares, I record my journey through an underground world of shredded pasts and futures. Scrap by scrap, I assemble an entity our minds can no longer recognise. It is tangible and familiar, yet uncannily horrific.
